Turku University of Applied Sciences

Contemporary Self-Portraits project has been coordinated by the Arts Academy of Turku University of Applied Sciences. In addition to creating a shared regional self-portrait, the regional self-portrait processes generate a period piece of a European identity in the 2010s. The project has resulted in new work methods based on self-portraits and autobiographies, local exhibitions and publications. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone who participated in the implementation and workshops of the Contemporary Self-Portraits project.

TUAS and especially the Department of Fine Arts has exceptional prior experience in public and communal art. This experience has accumulated in several projects and cases both local and international. Also a long tradition in public and communal art practices among the artist teachers of TUAS gives a good foundation to the completion of project activities such as public workshops, cooperation with street actors and other local and international artists.

TUAS represents the top tier of multidisciplinary applied research and development in Finland. Nearly 100 RDI projects are started each year, most of which are international. Turku Arts Academy has wide international links with European institutes of higher education and professionals in the field of arts. Cooperation is mostly conducted via teacher and student exchange and various international projects. Arts Academy is an acknowledged project actor both as a leader and as a partner.
